About Us

People tell stories all the time, but unless you're a politician or celebrity, you probably won't have the chance to share your story with the world. In a culture of the 24-hour news cycle, it's easy to forget how much we can learn about current events simply by talking with one another, and listening.

For eight years, from early 2006 to November 22, 2013, we made a daily radio show dedicated to doing just that.

We met people from all over the world, of all ages. Most shows began with a long-form conversation between Host Dick Gordon and the day's guest.

Unlike any other public radio show, we enjoyed a robust collaboration with independent radio producers and storytellers, putting "on the radio" stories and voices otherwise only heard online.

We aired parts of the podcast 99% Invisible, as well as Nate DiMeo's storytelling podcast The Memory Palace. Regular contributors included Long Haul Productions, Scott Carrier, Zak Rosen, Sarah Reynolds, Barrett Golding, and Jonathan Mitchell of The Truth.

We partnered with Salon.com, and Narrative.ly to share our favorite stories both on the air and in print.

Poets and writers such as Ron Rash, Dorothy Allison, Justin Torres, Sharon Olds and Jo Ann Beard came by to share their latest work, and we played vintage radio classics from people like Dave Isay, Jay Allison, the Kitchen Sisters, Joe Richman and Dmae Roberts.

Other regular voices heard on the show were Sean Cole and Phoebe Judge both reporting and filling in as host.
